            It’s so nice to be Happy! :) No more pressures. No more brain bleeding. (hehe) But it’s sad to know that we’re leaving our Junior year and admit that we have to move on  to our next mission, being a Senior student of Inhs.

            Eventhough I had a hard time studying in Chem whenever there is a test, I will still miss some lessons especially those lessons that it’s really hard for me to understand.

    Lessons:

         * Solutions - Life-Supporting Mixtures

             Types of Solutions:

               - Solvent

               - Solute

         * Solubility

               - Saturated- maximum solute

               - Unsaturated- less solute

               - Supersaturated- more solute

         * Ways of expressing concentration:

               - % by  mass

               - % by volume

               - % by mass/volume

         * Finding the pOH and the pH

         * Colloids

             Types ofColloids:

               - Dispersed phase

               - Dispersion medium

         * Naming Structures

    Third Grading! —

      Chemistry! I really find it hard. It’s getting more complicated and harder. I don’t understand some of the lessons not because I’m not listening to my teacher while she’s discussing it, I guess it’s just that my mind is not working while she’s explaining. And it’s one of the reasons why I regret having a low grades. Fortunately, I got a better score in Periodical Exam. It gave me the reason why I should strive hard, It reminded me that it’s not the end. There are still a lot of things I need to prove about myself.  I should not lose hope. :)

    Anyway, inspite of all the hardship, I also learned a lot in Chemistry. These are the lessons we have discussed:

    * ENDOTHERMIC & EXOTHERMIC REACTION:

    ~ Endothermic- a process that absorbs heat and cools the surroundings.

    ~ Exothermic- a process that releases heat.

    Exothermic processesEndothermic processesmaking ice cubesmelting ice cubesformation of snow in cloudsconversion of frost to water vaporcondensation of rain from water vaporevaporation of water

    * MOLECULAR FORMULA

    The simplest formula for vitamin C is C3H4O3. Experimental data indicates that the molecular mass of vitamin C is about 180. What is the molecular formula of vitamin C?

    Solution

    First, calculate the sum of the atomic masses for C3H4O3. Look up the atomic masses for the elements from the Periodic Table. The atomic masses are found to be:

    H is 1.01
    C is 12.01
    O is 16.00

    Plugging in these numbers, the sum of the atomic masses for C3H4O3 is:

    3(12.0) + 4(1.0) + 3(16.0) = 88.0

    This means the formula mass of vitamin C is 88.0. Compare the formula mass (88.0) to the approximate molecular mass (180). The molecular mass is twice the formula mass (180/88 = 2.0), so the simplest formula must be multiplied by 2 to get the molecular formula:

    molecular formula vitamin C = 2 x C3H4O3 = C6H8O6

    Answer

    C6H8O6

    An approximate molecular mass is usually sufficient to determine the formula mass, but the calculations tend not to work out ‘even’ as in this example. You are looking for the closest whole number to multiply by the formula mass to get the molecular mass.
    * LE CHATELIER’S PRINCIPLE
    Le Châtelier’s principle, chemical principle that states that if a system in equilibrium is disturbed by changes in determining factors, such as temperature, pressure, and concentration of components, the system will tend to shift its equilibrium position so as to counteract the effect of the disturbance.
    OTHER TOPICS: How to solve for the KEQ
    Balancing Equation
    How to get the Empirical Formula
    Stoichiometry
    - Mole-Mole
    - Mass-Mole
    - Mass-Mass
    - Volume-Volume
    * REDOX REACTION:

    O-XIDATION

    I-S

    L-OSS OF ELECTRONS

    R-EDUCTION

    I-S

    G-AIN OF ELECTRONS.

    * General Patterns of Chemical Reactions:

    Decomposition

    Combination

    Single Replacement

    Double Replacement).

      ————- Haaaay CHEMISTRY! Please be Good to me this Fourth Grading :) So we could be Good Friends XD

    — END.

    Chem Journal <3

    Chemistry! Real hard.. Real real hard ! Until now, I’m still asking myself, how can I pass this? I really can’t understand some of our lessons. but even though it’s hard for me, I’m still trying my best to do all I ca just to pass this subject. Before releasing the card in the First Grading, I was afraid because I thought I’ll get line of 7.. but thank God, it’s not what I thought. I’m very thankful because Ms. Tingatinga is out teacher in Chem, she explains the lessons clearly even though sometime she’s fast. ;) she made sure we understand the lesson. But for me I really find it hard. But even though it’s hard for me, I still learn a lot in 2nd Grading.

    I learned how to bond atoms. At first I find it hard because I was absent when Ms. Tingatinga discussed this topic. My classmate explained it to me the step by step I understand. I also learned writing the Lewis structure. I learned how to differentiate covalent bonds, ionic bonds etc.. I learned how to solve the Oxidation number. Naming the Compounds is the hardest for me because it’s confusing. I’m learning more on how to use the periodic table, how to differentiate the period and the family. I learned also all about Chemical Formulas.

    Having class with Ma’am Tingatinga is fun!
